I was coming to the end of my lease when I was contacted by Tesla and offered a great deal. They would wave my last two months and also the $385 ret fee plus $500 towards wear and tear along with the 6 months of free charging. I accepted and -aid the $250 fee. Then I went online and found an inventory car for $3000 less. I had to pay another $250 to get it and found out that the first $250 was unrefundable. That was ok but now I found out that instead of putting that $250 down as a down payment they add it to the price of the car. Then when you pay they take the $250 off, so you actually give them $250 for the right to buy the car. Anyone else upset about this practice?

That is correct. It is a non-refundable order fee, not a deposit. My pre-coffee early morning brain does not recall the reason, but there is a legal basis and difference between an order fee and deposit. Tesla used to do deposits (nonrefundable $2500 was my first Tesla experience) but changed to smaller nonrefundable order fees. At delivery, deposits count as a pre-payment against the purchase price. The order fee does not.
