Attention monitoring issue

I recently made a 130mi trip along I80 which was pretty much a straight drive for two hours. Figured THIS is where FSD excels. I had to head out after a long day of work and it was about an hour before sunset so would get dark and FSD would have helped with fatigue.

However, most of the drive was marred with “attention monitoring” not available messages which meant I had to keep shifting focus to the screen to see if I needed to torque the wheel. I’m not sure if the issue was due to directly driving west into the sunset or just a software bug. Definitely didn’t let me relax as much as I’d have liked.

Bonus issue. When I left my arrival SOC stated 46%. Actual SOC when arriving 29%. No AC/heat. The large gap was purely because of the speed at which FSD drove. Max speed set was 77, but FSD constantly hit mid 80s.

Do you wear regular glasses or sunglasses? Is it possible that the sun was reflecting off of your glasses / sunglasses and therefore the camera couldn’t see your eyes?

I’ve also noticed that the alert comes up during my morning drive, well before sun rise. Even though I just torqued the wheel not 5 seconds before another alert comes up. But this is my first time having a Tesla this early in the morning, so I have nothing to compare to with the lack of sunlight.

You are probably ina vehicle that doesn’t have the infrared capability. There’s not enough light for the camera to see you.
One option is to switch the map to daylight mode, that seems to add enough light.
Also if you are having to provide torque, just make it constant.

Max speed set was 77, but FSD constantly hit mid 80s.
Is this that it should have had max speed set to 77 (perhaps based on 10% offset to 70 mph speed limit) or that it actually did have the max speed limit set higher?

I regularly see it setting a very high max speed, much higher than speed limit plus offset. But I have never had it go above what it is showing as the max speed.

Not sure where it came up with the 77mph limit. My offset is at 15% and speed limit is 70mph. My guess is it speeds up to 77mph and then sees a vehicle and decides to match the flow of traffic. But when it passes vehicles it sees much further down and decides to match THAT vehicle.

On my return trip I noticed it would say that attention monitoring is not available because hands aren’t available to take over. Not sure what that’s about.

I’ve always been amazed that the camera doesn’t care if I am eating or drinking.
