Just ordered a 2023 Y Performance, what type of battery will it have?
Likely the 2170 NCM Lithium-ion 81kWh

Not the LFP? Not sure which type is better?

2170 NCM is more energy dense at the moment. LiFePo (LFP) is less expensive and can be charged to 100% daily but can't store the same amount of energy. It's also made in China by CATL and does not qualify for the tax credit so an LFP equipped cars like the standard range Model 3 only gets $3750.

The base Model Y gets a U.S. made 4680 battery which is Tesla's new structural battery. It was supposed to be lighter and more energy dense but so far it hasn't lived up to its promise in this generation. But the base Model Y does qualify for the full $7500 tax credit. The only real benefit to the 4680 battery is production cost. The same base Model Y also gets the much tauted Gigacasting front and rear frame.

The Canadian RWD version is currently the only Model Y that uses LFP battery.

Better is relative.
The LFP is more durable but not as energy dense and has to be charged to 100% often so the BMS can work properly. But you'll get NO tax credit for the battery.

2170 is currently the most energy dense for the Y ( the X and S use a different type altogether) It's older and more proven technolgy from Panasonic and Tesla. Plus it gets FULL tax credit.

The 4680 is more cost effective to build for Tesla and supposedly helps with vehicle rigidity but very difficult to repair since everything is "glued" together. It's Tesla in house design and does qualify for FULL tax credit.

NMC

Currently, only the shorter-range Model 3s are getting LFP packs.
I am getting the full $7,500, so I guess that answers my question
Thanks
So 2 types get the full credit, the 2170 and 4680?
If 2 types get the full credit, than I am still not sure which I will be getting.

All Model Y Performance cars get batteries with 2170 NMC cells.
i really don’t know the differences. Is that a good or bad thing?

It's neither good nor bad.
Which makes me wonder - why are you so concerned? Is it just curiousity?
Yes, more or less.
