Cruise control activates windshield wipers in Auto mode...WHY?

Why does activating the cruise control in my Model Y cause the wipers to operate in AUTO mode. It doesn't matter whether its raining or not the wipers come on. Its especially annoying because the wipers rubbing on a dry windshield can cause scratches on the glass as well as wear on the wiper blades.

Thanks for your help

Cruise Control (variation of AutoPilot to me) is reliant on the primary forward cameras for so much, so it makes sense for it to be in control of what it needs to keep a clear view out the windshield. Now, the dry wipes have been a problem for many for a long time across software versions. I'm running the latest available or 1 version back, for my 2023 Model Y with HW3, and dry wipes have not been a problem.

add: make sure your cameras and windshield are spotlessly clean

From April 2023 to February 2024, I got NO dry wipes in my 2023 Model Y. After a software update in February 2024, I began experiencing at least one to a few dry wipes on every drive. This continued until I sold the car in May 2025. The 2026 Model Y that replaced it also experience dry wipes. It is now habit for me to turn the wipers off immediately after engaging FSD now. Sometimes, however, they wipe immediately after engaging FSD before I can turn them off.

Curiously, I haven't seen a single dry wipe in any of the videos of Robotaxi rides.
