And the full blog entry about this, from the Tesla team:
$35,000 Tesla Model 3 Available Now
The Tesla Team February 28, 2019
We are incredibly excited to announce that the standard Model 3, with 220 miles of range, a top speed of 130 mph and 0-60 mph acceleration of 5.6 seconds is now available at $35,000! Although lower in cost, it is built to achieve the same perfect 5-star safety rating as the longer-ranged version, which has the lowest probability of injury of any car ever tested by the U.S. Government.
In addition, we are introducing the Model 3 Standard Range Plus, which offers 240 miles of range, a top speed of 140 mph, 0-60 mph acceleration of just 5.3 seconds and most premium interior features at $37,000 before incentives. For 6% more money, you get 9% more range, more power, and an upgraded interior.
To achieve these prices while remaining financially sustainable, Tesla is shifting sales worldwide to online only. You can now buy a Tesla in North America via your phone in about 1 minute, and that capability will soon be extended worldwide. We are also making it much easier to try out and return a Tesla, so that a test drive prior to purchase isn't needed. You can now return a car within 7 days or 1,000 miles for a full refund. Quite literally, you could buy a Tesla, drive several hundred miles for a weekend road trip with friends and then return it for free. With the highest consumer satisfaction score of any car on the road, we are confident you will want to keep your Model 3.
Shifting all sales online, combined with other ongoing cost efficiencies, will enable us to lower all vehicle prices by about 6% on average, allowing us to achieve the $35,000 Model 3 price point earlier than we expected. Over the next few months, we will be winding down many of our stores, with a small number of stores in high-traffic locations remaining as galleries, showcases and Tesla information centers. The important thing for customers in the United States to understand is that, with online sales, anyone in any state can quickly and easily buy a Tesla.
At the same time, we will be increasing our investment in the Tesla service system, with the goal of same-day, if not same-hour service, and with most service done by us coming to you, rather than you coming to us. Moreover, we guarantee service availability anywhere in any country in which we operate.
We're also excited to announce that we're implementing a number of firmware upgrades for both new and existing customers. These upgrades will increase the range of the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive Model 3 to 325 miles, increase the top speed of Model 3 Performance to 162 mph, and add an average of approximately 5% peak power to all Model 3 vehicles.
Tesla is committed to making not just the best electric cars, but the best cars, period. And our products are the reason we continue to rank #1 in Consumer Reports owner satisfaction survey and have every single year since Tesla was first eligible to be included in 2013. Both Model 3 Standard and Standard Plus are available starting today at Tesla.com.

I like the new pricing structure, particularly around autopilot for those that just wanted TACC and the like. I wonder which functions existing autopilot owners will keep and which will be FSD only.

#23 ·
I'm all for the lower price, but if they made TACC an individual item, I might be willing to get just that.

Granted, at the lower price, I might be willing to consider the whole thing. Of course, hearing about HW3 does make me curious what the new value proposition around FSD (or anything beyond EAP, really) is going to be soon.

As happy as I am as a TSLA holder to see that they got it out in a fairly timely manner, it's a bittersweet moment as an early adopter.

If reservation holders such as myself simply waited until now, we would've saved around 5k even after the fact that the rebate is now $3750.

No matter how you cut it for me personally, that's too hefty of a price difference. Granted I've had my car for over 6 months now, but to me it's not worth the premium.

Still love the car either way.

EDIT: This matters a lot to me, as if I had the pricing that is out now for my configuration (LR, EAP, PUP, non-AWD) available to me, I would have without question gone with AWD and would have been much more satisfied with my purchase.

I just picked up my model 3 on Mar 12, after cancelling my $1000 deposit of 2 years 3 months ago. I didn't want to pay the early adopters premium and was considering buying a used S. When Tesla made the price reduction on Mar 1 I jumped right in away, i am telling all my friends who cancelled their $1000 deposit to buy before prices goes up after March 18. I love the model 3, I think is look better than the S.

I'm confused about current Autopilot features now listed under "Full Self-Driving Capability"

Autopilot
Enables your car to steer, accelerate and brake automatically for other vehicles and pedestrians within its lane.
$3,000

Full Self-Driving Capability
  • Navigate on Autopilot: automatic driving from highway on-ramp to off-ramp including interchanges and overtaking slower cars.
  • Autopark: both parallel and perpendicular spaces.
  • Summon: your parked car will come find you anywhere in a parking lot. Really. (This is new)
These are new:

Coming later this year: (These are new)
  • Recognize and respond to traffic lights and stop signs.
  • Automatic driving on city streets.

What do current Autopilot customers get?

Did all of us who bought EAP get screwed? NoA, autopark, advanced summon are now all Full self driving features... If these are actually removed, I hope they refund my $5k back, I couldn't care less about actual EAP since I prefer driving myself anyway. Autopark, advanced summon were the main things I was interested in with the original $5k EAP cost.

I don't think they can take those things away from us now that we have them. I think this is more about new buyers who are going to have to pay more to have them. My guess is we'll be somehow granfathered into a "partial FSD". Another alternative is that that those of us who bought EA might somehow get a discount on FSD since we've already paid for many of the capabilities. But I still think they would have a HUGE customer satisfaction issue on their hands if they went that route.

What the heck no does this mean for us that currently have EAP? Menu is showing FSD as containing nav on autopilot (which us with EAP already have), autopark (we only have parallel now), and summon (we have the basic but not yet the teased come find you version).

Also note that FSD is no longer available off menu for me (noticed this as soon as the website update went live).

Autpilot might be explained about in the CAN decoding... there are four values: None, Highway, Enhanced, and FSD. Clearly this new $3000 option is Highway, and those of us that paid $5k get Enhanced. This has been in the works for a while...

Iiiiinteresting. Hey @JWardell, I just put this together:

Image

Does that look about right? If so, we're looking at a difference of about $3k for the new capabilities.

I wonder if they will offer to upgrade those of us who got enhanced auto pilot to FSD for less than the $3,000 that was originally quoted.
Yeah, I could see this starting to shape up. Fingers crossed this works out in our favor.

#35 ·
Well... this is going to be confusing. Will EAP become FSD? If so what happens if you bought FSD already? Surely features won't be taken AWAY from EAP (they'd be a mutiny for sure). Refund for FSD? Partial FSD for those already purchased EAP but not FSD? Confusion, confusion.....

#39 ·
Yeah.. I was just looking at that myself. I'm confused. I kind of remember it saying Enhanced Autopilot before, and now it's just autopilot. Maybe that's the difference? Been a while since I've looked at the configuration pages.

The Autopilot package I bought back in September for $5000 is substantially different from the new offering. The new Autopilot package is $3000 but it excludes many of the features that are included in mine. These missing features are now part of the FSD package sold for an additional $5000. Maybe we, the early adopters, have been upgraded to FSD by default. All we are missing are "reponding to red lights and stops" and "automatic street driving". Granted, that last one is a big one. It would be nice if Tesla gave us a preferential pricing for the Hardware 3 that coming soon.

Well, configuring a Model 3P like mine (see sig) is now 10k less than I paid (w/o $3750 tax credit reduction that happened Jan 1).

Here's what I'm thinking guys. We paid $5k for basically all the AP features that are now available on their website. Today people can pay $8k for all of those features PLUS access to future FSD or $3k for just EAP. I'm ASSUMING that the missing features (drive on streets, recognize street lights/stop signs) will only work on HW3. The way Tesla will reconcile this is likely charging us $3k for the HW3 module which comes with FSD. Thoughts?
