@tencate, you can get a software update that doesn’t change your FSD version, but updates other non-FSD things. Here is a snapshot of Teslafi’s fleet’s most recent versions, with FSD in red.

I got v12.6.4 yesterday.
Have just taken a couple drives.

Map data errors, like turning into the wrong entrance, etc are still there.

It hesitated and got jittery making a right at a stop sign for the first time.

Seems to center in the lane a little better than 12.6.3.

All else very similar so far.

Update went smoothly, like 45 minutes.

After reading about all these problems, I am beginning to think I'll just stick to my 11/2016 Model S with the MCU1 and 12.3.6 lifetime FSD! The main issue for me is the gradual decrease in speed during FSD use. It loses a MPH about every 30 seconds, and I have to keep bumping it back up.

Funny you mention “all these problems.” I am reasonably happy with the current version but wondering if a future update might ‘brick’ my car.

Had a poor experience yesterday with FSD 12.6.4 on my HW3 model X. It was like the days of earlier FSD, changing lanes unnecessarily and being aggressive with speed, not slowing down when there was abrupt traffic stoppage ahead. It truly felt like my car was on drugs.
I drove 700 miles yesterday in this car. My plan had been to revert to EAP rather than FSD for most of the trip. However, I would get an “Autosteer Temporarily Unavailable” message when trying to activate non-FSD autopilot. After about 500 miles I decided to recalibrate the cameras and that worked to restore non-FSD.

Happily, the first 500 miles on FSD was actually quite good. None of the madman behavior I had experienced 5 days ago on the highways in Pittsburgh. I did switch to EAP for the last part of the drive, and felt a breath of fresh air that I could set a maximum speed and it would stay at that. The FSD speed variability on the highway is still an issue. It seems to have learned from humans not on cruise control!

I had a novel intervention on 12.6.4 yesterday when merging on to I-20W in Wills Point, Texas.

Instead of veering left on the short entrance "ramp" to merge onto the highway, my car accelerated and headed straight on the frontage road.

There was a sign that read "frontage road ends - no thru traffic" and the road surface had severely degraded since this Google street view was captured two years ago. Had I let the vehicle continue, I suppose (or hope!) that it would have eventually stopped and waited for input after realizing it had missed the turn and would have likely ended up with some damaged tires and wheels.

After realizing it was going to take me "off roading", I braked hard to a stop then reversed and correctly merged onto the highway.

Also on this 200-mile road trip, I received an "attention monitoring unavailable - hands not ready to take over" message for the first time. I had my hands clasped together between my chest and the steering wheel for a bit. No problems with my hands on the armrests, lap, legs, knees, or folded.

Otherwise, the 200-mile drive ride was very comfortable. I was impressed that the vehicle drove around a black bird enjoying a rodent in the middle of the lane in a residential area.

2019 M3 LR AWD V12.6.4
South Florida - Hurry mode

First time it does this.

I put the turn signal on to have it merge into the express lane. It's done this before in daylight on standard mode on its own, so didn't think much of it. When I approached the merge where there is a break in the triffic dividers, it slowed down a lot and the wheel started going left to right, like it was uncertain this was safe to do. Me holding the steering wheel straight and hitting the accelerator disengaged the car, but at 70+ mph that was a butt clincher.

Not sure if it was night time that spooked it, or that it wasn't it's idea to merge into the express lane. I do have use HOV lanes checked.

Not sure what would have happened had I let it do it's own thing.

Just drove 1300 miles this past weekend for a Robotics competition in Texas. 1300 miles roughly. Gotta admit I am seriously impressed. Especially letting it drive around town in downtown Plano. But even on the highway. I think I prefer something between Chill and Standard. Only two real disengagements, a confused-at-intersection choice while the light was turning red, and a merging truck and a construction zone. VERY impressed though.

I’ve experienced this a lot of times. I consider it a HW3 thing. I don’t recall ever experiencing that on HW4.
It did something similar to me in a Tesla loaner in my neighborhood. Fortunately not scary since it went from 25 mph to zero before doing that, but still annoying. FSD slowed down and stopped in the middle of the road, and then the wheel turned back and forth indecisively, but it refused to move. No intersection right there, but it was eventually approaching a roundabout.

I have been on 12.6.4 for several weeks and do mostly around town and work commutes with very little freeway driving.I have a 2021 Model Y performance. The Y has had its ups and downs with previous versions but with this version I can say that I am not anxious or excited about an update. This version is working nearly flawless and is doing some amazing things. I was traveling on a 3 lane street approaching an intersection where there was a fire truck approaching the intersection. The model Y was into the intersection first and the fire truck turned right placing itself in the same direction behind the Model Y.Immediatley the model Y placed its blinker and moved to the right 1.1/2 lanes over and stopped, allowing the fire truck to pass. It then resumed its drive. i wish i had saved the dashcam video.
On another drive the model Y was on navigation and was in the left turn lane planning to make a U turn. There was a U-haul truck in front position. The light turned green and the Uhaul started to make what seemed to be a left turn but was really making a wide U turn. The model Y was in the act of making a tighter U turn but was able to brake and avoid a possible collision. My main takeaway is that this version is doing things very confidently and allowing me to let it do its thing rather than intervene. It seems most all my interventions are to adjust the path of navigation to my liking.

I have several issues like you after the second from last update on my M3 2019.
-No steady speed on FSD
-Unable to control with the RH steering wheel
-speed goes up and down

Can't believed I paid for a system FSD full price in 2019 and still no working properly. Tesla said will be ready in two yrs.

I suspected they changed something in the settings with the update. Problem started after the upgraded.

Please advise

@Tuanis18, FSD controls were changed a bit starting with FSD 12.6., specifically regarding speed control. Earlier in this thread are a number of summaries of those changes. I agree that speed is still a huge issue that they don't have right yet. I especially notice it on a highway when a constant speed is feasible but FSD 12.6. varies the speed a lot. For the highway situation, I keep a second driver profile with FSD turned off and Naviagate on Autopilot turned on. The old Enhanced Autopilot worked well for me when I drove 700 highway miles on Wednesday. It maintains the speed I set.

A reproducible problem, the car will moved left into a soon to end, merge lane and them back to the correct lane for a future merge:

It is similar to a long gone problem I called the "Wilson weave." On a 5 lane road, a center left turn lane, the car would move into the center lane, back, and into the center lane again, and back. That problem was corrected almost a year ago.

Also, two cases where the car moved to a left turn lane prematurely and almost into on coming traffic:

FYI, I drive in "chill" mode and the middle emergency stop setting.

I've noticed 12.6.4 doesn't slow down early enough on the highway when headed toward traffic ahead that is either stopped of going much slower. It feels like it keeps the accelerator pressed too long, when instead it should be coasting before the slowdown. Feels like it's either accelerating or slowing down, nothing in between.

Also it has made a right in front of traffic that was moving kind of fast a few times now where I know the oncoming car must have had to break to a bothersome degree.

Speaking of that, hurry also seems completely oblivious to lane ending signage as it will rabbit into the already shrinking "passing" lane.
The above was taken from the 2025.8 thread.

I see this all the time in "normal" drivers, so maybe there is a lot of bad examples being fed to the AI. I hope Tesla has a way to feed known good examples, as in a library of them that are maintained and fed into every new version of FSD.

I have a 2022 MY with FSD V12.6.4 (Intel Atom) and here is my feedback about my current version of FSD:
  1. Speed:
e.g. on a freeway with a 65 m/h limit most of the people in CA driving 70 – 75. Even in a hurry mode FSD slows down, a lot of times to 55 – 60 m/h for no apparent reason.
This is dangerous! This also happens on city roads. Why can't it drive at minimum speed limit?

2. Follow a car
If, for example you “follow” a car on a freeway (a car in front of you) and often city roads the distance becomes larger and larger
Over time, this will allow other cars to sneak in or even the car behind me will pass me and go back in in front of me since I am driving too slow.
Why in the hell can’t you just follow the car (if it drives within the limits) and keep the distance (I understand that with
Increased speed you should also increase the distance)?
This is stupid and dangerous!

3. Lane calculation
I noticed several times (even after calibration) that FSD/Autopilot is driving too far left for no reason, sometimes
Even hitting the small bumpers. Why can’t it be fixed?

4. Blind spot
Why in the hell are you positioning my car in a blind spot of adjacent cars (e.g. 45 degrees)? You are setting it up
For an accident caused by the other car. Either move up or stay behind!

5. Speed bumps
Why don’t you show speed bumps in the display? I never know if my car recognizes the speed bump or not.

6. Changing lanes
If I direct my car to change the lane, it 1) takes way too long to do it (sometimes even ignores my command; it is also illegal in some countries)
2) don’t use the blinker unless you are about the change the lanes. It confuses other drivers when my blinker is
On but my car does not do the lane change! This is dangerous!

7. Lane selection
Why does my car not take the new lane immediately? Sometimes a car behind me is faster and is taking the lane.

8. Voice input
I noticed that the voice command don't work most of the time; e.g. when I say "navigate to Food4less in Oceanside" it only says: "show map" 1 or 2 versions earlier I could use the command, but no more. However, some commands are still ok.

Overall I think the latest version is a step BACK compared to earlier V12 versions.
What is your experience?

I had my first "real" intervention in quite a while yesterday. I was behind a motorcycle at a busy 4-way stop. After the motorcycle went through the intersection, my car confidently continued following it without stopping and waiting for its turn. I stopped well past the stop line. What my vehicle did would have been very unlikely to cause a collision, but it was illegal and discourteous.
