So, more expensive energy.
So, more expensive energy. They are moving toward 100% clean energy by 2045. It's a slow process unfortunately. We lack enlightened politicians.
Not necessarily. You see a lot of new energy that is installed is clean, and a lot of that ends up being cheaper. Think of a solar or wind farm, yes, there is up front cost. but that's amortized over the life of the facility. Coal and gas plants have construction costs as well, which can be plenty high, but they also require monthly fuel costs. So, more expensive energy.
A recent update to the energy screen fixed this. One thing I'd add is the misleading information the car gives you.... The car consumes electric doing nothing...
250 miles is pretty easy to do, take a drive at about 55 mph (~70F) and you'll probably exceed it.One thing I'd add is the misleading information the car gives you. My car (in nice temps and steady driving) shows between 200Wh/m and 250Wh/m, but that's not the whole story. The car consumes electric doing nothing and even if I don't park it up with cameras on etc, and I do the maths, either the battery is way smaller than it should be or that 'Wh/m' figure is bollocks. My SR+ can do 250m, I'm not sure how that's possible. Be very lucky to get it over 200m if you drive very slow and carefully in one trip. Since new, it shows 45,000m and average 247Wh/m. Like all cars, don't believe that.
In the UK, it's around 45p per KWh at tesla super chargers (~56$c). If you use another charger it's around 70p. If you used superchargers here in the UK, I'd recon a diesel would be cheaper to run in the real world. We have different gallon sizes, but it's around £6.3 gallon (7.8USD), a diesel will do around 60mpg so that's 10p/m. If you went by the figures on the Tesla screen it's ~11p/m. So I call the diesel (ATM), cheaper. This is a threat in the UK for EVs.
That said, I've had EVs for nearly 8 years now and I have solar panels+battery at home and charge for free at work...for me...it works well. In fact, without going into detail, I actually make money from it.
And I'm not at an airport today
ref; bmw 3 series 61mpg; peugeot 208 74mpg.
The difference is closer now. Got my Model 3 - 7500 for the tax credit made it 35K for me. Still 7K pays for a LOT of gas and service.Compared to my previous Mazda3 no mater how much I save on gas It will never be anywhere near the price. 28,000 vs 41,000. I'm OK with that. I bought the model 3 because I like it, not because I believe I am saving the world, or saving any money.
did you already claim your credit? did you get the full amount? The difference is closer now. Got my Model 3 - 7500 for the tax credit made it 35K for me. Still 7K pays for a LOT of gas and service.
If you buy a car this year, you can't get the credit until next year.did you already claim your credit? did you get the full amount?
I understand that.If you buy a car this year, you can't get the credit until next year.
The $7500 credit didn't take effect for Teslas until this year.I understand that.
