How does MS treat services like VROOM, Carvana, etc.?? They're not a dealerships.
Yeah, but they only sell USED cars, not new ones and a USED car dealer doesn't have to have a 'franchise' - franchises are for RICH car dealers (that's why most of them own several at the same time) and make TONS of money on 'extras' they talk you into AFTER you 'buy' a car'...

Tesla doesn't HAVE any 'dealerships'... They only have SHOWROOMS! You still have to buy the cars online, even if it's AT the showroom (at least the one I bought from in Jan.).

This has many advantages, the first one being PRICE!! Can you imagine what the price of a new CyberTruck (selling for, say $75k) would be at a dealership that just got one or two of them in? They would add the infamous DEALER MARKUP of about $25,000 to it!! Yeah, gotta love that 'dealer markup' which basically means "HUGE EXTRA PROFITS"...

Well, they will just end up putting in more 'Service' stores then I guess... Service locations that will have nice computers that go directly to Tesla's website - you know, for the waiting clients or weary travelers who happen by... But no cash registers, no salesmen, no paperwork even... hmmm... just like they are now...

Those markups are how the RICH dealership owners make most of their money. And they need that money so they can make tax-deductible, charitable $100K "donations" to their favorite govenor that helps them keep their bidness yuuugely profitable. For the common good, just how god intended.

"Small government" philosophy only apply when it benefits people. "Don't thread on me" unless my company's business model is in jeopardy or my bank is going under.
I have a t-shirt with that infamous "Don't Tread on Me" snake on it wearing a blue face mask. The legend has been changed to "Don't Breathe on Me!".

Dealerships, in general, provide little in the way of unique services. Instead, they inflate the price of vehicles and sell additional, questionably useful products to captive customers who just want to get out of the dealership in the shortest time. All this just to leech off of products built by others.

I'm not saying dealerships should be banned (although I wouldn't miss them), but I am saying that making dealerships mandatory via state legislature is just another form of overbearing big government.

It's all about the lobbyists who fight on behalf of the dealerships and make contributions to influence lawmakers. No one cares one iota about the consumer except when they are extracting more profits from them during a car deal.

Mississippi has passed a law forbiding direct sales of cars by automakers. Florida is considering doing the same.
Below is the gleeful tweet from the Mississippi governor.
Well gosh Texas has had this law a long time bc state govt is owned by the gas car and middle men dealership lobbies. Not to worry. We have great Tesla service centers and many many Teslas. Plenty of workarounds for what is a profoundly backward and stupid law. I mean Tesla is even based in Texas lol.
