New Buyer Concerns

3567 Views 72 Replies 22 Participants Last post by  ThAbtO
We've narrowed our new car search down to two, leaning towards the Tesla Y, but have a few concerns/questions I was hoping owners can answer:
1. I live in a hot climate, so being able to remotely cool off the car is a MUST. Does the Tesla app do this? What level of connectivity subscription do I need to do this?
2. Does the app have a vehicle locator? I sometimes forget to note where I parked in big parking lots! Again, what level of subscription do I need for this?
3. Does the Y come with adaptive cruise control, or is that part of the $6,000 self-driving upgrade?
4. Lane keep assist/departure prevention - included, or part of an upgrade?
5. Does it have vented/cooled seats? (really nice in a hot climate - back sweat)
6. Anyone have experience with EV6 and offer additional pros/cons of each?

Thanks!

my further experience, on the phone addressing the Genesis/Hund/Kia markups, I tried to remind the dealer they are competing with a superior customer experience with Tesla and in their arigance, they stated they dont feel Tesla is competition....then who is? Toyota/Honda? they are out of touch with reality, go Tesla Nation

After testing the TeslaY, tested an EV6 - the drive is amazing, the vented seats was a dream - advertised price on their website had a dealership markDOWN, but when I showed up they tried to tell me there was a dealership markUP - went home and ordered the Tesla that very evening. Sales manager said he was going to call me in a couple days, can't wait for that call.
The only frustrating thing about the Y is the wait time for my LR W/W...4 months at this point, but who knows for sure. One of the Tesla mysteries. How long is your wait time? Best of luck with it.
back in Nov/Dec we wanted MY LR due to not needing performance, but then we switched to first available search as we did not want to wait, found MYP on waitingfortesla.com and got our perfect vehicle, if you just want to start living Tesla nation, just go with the first available, color/interior you want, skip which model, just do it

I hope ours isn't that long!!! The website said May-June delivery when we ordered! What's a LR W/W? Long-Range ??

That's the Model Y Long Range white paint and interior and 19-inch wheels. I believe it is one of the more popular configurations so that may be adding to our wait.
At one point the EDD was 6 weeks out, today it is 4 months out from the order date.
so, I was actually looking at Audi and Polestar.
Drove the MY and compared infrastructure and included toys.
Ya, I pick up my MYP tomorrow AM...

How long did it take from order to delivery?

Agree, better to not build but grab via waiting for Tesla site right after built and on the way in
Filter on location, model, color, etc
Then snag right after built
3-4 weeks in hand

Well, we just got a notice from Tesla that they're not installing ultrasonic parking sensors on our Model Y, and from all I've seen, their camera-based alternative is basically non-functional and an accident waiting to happen. I also read that, unlike every other car make in existence, it doesn't auto-brake if you're about to have a parking accident? Are you kidding me? I think we're going to cancel our order!
Get a pre-2023 model 3 or Y for Tesla with Ultrasonic sensors.

Do they have third-row seats those years? And sounds like they are disabling the sensrors on cars that have them in favor of a camera solution that has blind spots, doesn't work in snow, doesn't work in fog, doesn't work in bright sun, and doesn't work at night/darkness? Did it ever have crosstraffic detection while backing up, or is that a new gripe due to the camera switch? (I don't research features when buying a $60k car that you assume are there because even cheap cars consider them standard!)
