No curb hits for me. And I'm the only person who has ever driven it. Are you suggesting I hit a curb? o_O
But you are making me think about where I drive etc. Lots of freeway and EAP likes to drive right at where a pothole is on the freeway. I normally take over and go around it, but guess how I found out about how it likes to drive right over it. Going to guess that is the reason.

This is especially a problem in Michigan. I wish it had a pothole avoidance mode. But then... it might find itself on the sidewalk here.

That could be it. I had a Taurus years ago that got destroyed by the roads in dallas. So bad they had to remove the shock towers, rotate them and re weld then so they could align it.

Software upgrade request for FSD.. pot hole avoidance. Seems like something they are going to have to do anyway!

Going to say the roads in San Diego are crap. So seems like this one is pretty minor, but I'm just going to make sure I don't use that lane for EAP anymore, that way I can just go back to blissful babysitting.

Guess I'll have to let you know how much Tesla service wants for an alignment. I'm going to guess it'll be more than the $80-$100 the local shop charges.
At least I got an appointment for tomorrow.

So, been reading all the tire rotation/ jack pucks conversations over the last few months and have been a bit concerned. Delivery scheduled next week so I went to get new tires on my Camry b4 hand-me-down to my son. While I was there(TiresPlus, local or national chain?, not sure) I asked about tire rotation for the M3. I was told I can buy, after-the-fact, lifetime rotation, balance, and road hazard(road hazard only if they carry the factory tires). Lifetime cost? $60. Sounds like a deal I won't pass up! They also told me that they have the appropriate jack pucks to protect the car, we'll see in 6000 miles.

I did that with Discount tire but the cost was $230. So that may be per tire....

I would definitey make sure they got the right pucks or something that will work. The ones I bought for the model 3 will fit the others but not Vice Versa

The Model S and Model X tools will not fit into the Model 3 jack point location hole. The Model S tool will loosely fit the Model X jack point. The Model X tool is a tight fit in the Model S jack point. The Model 3 tool will not hang from the Model S or Model X jack points. --That is from the company I bought my ReverseLogic Jack pads from

You can read about my experience here as well as the pads I bought. But I would recommend a set as you never know when you will need them

Good thing they are taxing gas more and added that tax to EV's every year right??

I love how when I drive across country on I-10 and the second you drive into California the quality of the road is like a night and day difference. There is actually a line in the freeway where you can tell it transitions right at the state line. Not that Texas is much better with that stupid chip-seal pavement that causes less efficiency and is super noisy. New Mexico is the best for pavement on I-10 in my opinion.

I remember reading someplace that San Diego has got some of the worst roads in the country (but that included higher maintenance costs, traffic, poor layout etc). So not only do we pay higher taxes, we really don't have anything to show for it.
There are notable differences between counties here as well. Lost of raising of the gas tax / bonds all with the idea of maintaining the roadways or improving them. I've only seen them get worst over the years, or when they do try to fix something it causes traffic to get worse for over a year or two due to construction.

Elon is already on record as saying that he does not want the service centers to become profit centers. That's the reason why most of us are not expecting to pay the type of premium prices for service that we do at dealerships.

Besides, I've *way* overpaid for both my car and several shares of Tesla. I think I deserve a bunch of free oil changes and a full tank when I pick up my car. ;)
Have you identified a tire chain store that is Model 3 prepared to rotate tires? I'm from western NY, most likely a western Pa chain may also cover western NY. My problem is the closed Tesla service center is 5 hours away for a tire rotation.

Nope - I rotate my own tires.

However, Tesla doesn't perform state inspections in PA, because you also have to handle emissions testing if you want to become a licensed inspection station. So I asked someone at my local Tesla service center if they could recommend a company that handles a lot of Teslas. So you might want to ask your local Tesla service/delivery center for a recommendation too. In my case, they recommended the Firestone garage just up the street.

I imagine emissions testing is the profit center for licensed testing stations? I live in a rural area and am not required to get my vehicles tested. For those of you who live where testing is required, do they give you a break on the inspection fee? Or does an EV cost just as much to inspect as a ICE vehicle? If the former, this is another example of how an electric vehicle is cheaper to maintain. And more convenient.

Car in at the service center. Told me they'll most likely need the car until tomorrow or tomorrow afternoon and did provide a car car. No idea at the time of how much it would cost etc. Drove the rental back to work and about an hour later got an e-mail with an invoice.

Concern: #VSC [Align] Customer:Steering wheel is off center approximately 10 degrees to
the left. If clients centers steering wheel car drifts right
-Note: Client is advised that wheel alignment is not a warranty job function- Perform wheel
alignment as a one time goodwill gesture

Perform Wheel alignment
Total Labor & Miscellaneous Items: 240.00
Pay Type: Customer Pay

So I have no idea if they are covering the $240 for the alignment or not. But gives an idea how much they charge for an alignment. - UPDATE: got a text from the service advisor, and he said he forgot to update the invoice to $0 before he sent it out, so it's all going to be covered with no charge. Now that's pretty amazing!

In PA, the inspection is a "safety inspection", and applies equally to all vehicles. Emissions testing is only required for combustion vehicles, and only if you live in certain counties.

Inspections and emissions testing aren't very expensive. The main "profit center" is when they find an issue that doesn't allow you to pass inspection. They know it's more convenient to just have them fix it right then and "pass" the car.

EVs are exempt from WA's testing (since they only are looking at emissions here, not the rest of the car). And also WA's testing centers are not a 'garage', but state run. Same in OR.

That is a steep price for an Alignment. OUCH.
Nice they did it free.....probably have all the guys watching as it may be the first 3 alignment they have done.

But I would like to hear if they fins anything wrong or if it was just the roads...

I'll keep everyone informed here. Car stalking my own car this morning is kind of interesting. Hopefully it'll be done soon and I can get out of this gas rental car.

Yeah that is a bit crazy. I think I paid maybe $300 for lifetime aligning at the Honda dealer for my wife's van. They check it and align it if necessary at every service. Even then I still get crappy mileage out of the tires on that car.
