Have had my Model Y Long Range for coming up on a year now, and I have 10K free supercharging miles as a result of taking delivery early on a model that didn't exactly match my order. I also wonder if those of us on Free Supercharging get penalized during supercharging....
Pulled into a Supercharger on Rte 1 North in North Brunswick NJ (near Panera Bread) with under 20%. It was part of my planned trip via the trip planner in the display....pre-conditioning had been underway for over 10-15 minutes as I recall.
I plugged in while noticing there was only 3 stalls open of the 15 or so. Very full and popular supercharger location. I got a "45 minutes to continue trip" message - the longest I have EVER seen, even at this spot which I have had to use at least 5 times in recent months. I thought perhaps it was because so many stalls were in use that my charge speed was low. But as I watched my charging speed (in miles per hour) as one vehicle after the other finish charging and pull away, and SAW IT GO DOWN?? Even after it got to only 3 or 4 of us left charging it was still only charging at 225mph (I have seen it go over 500mph at this station)... WHY?
Is there an article or paper (or web page) to go to in order to fully understand how these SuperCharger stations work and how to interpret or expect slower or faster charging speeds? I see in other posts that it might slow as you get closer to the end of the charge period/limit. On this particular trip I was pressed for time and had only budgeted 20 minutes for supercharging (I almost never see even 30 minutes, most of the time 15 - 20 minutes). I missed my appointment due to this and some traffic. Need to understand this better for time-budgeting for trips in future. Or is there a planning tool that I can view in the display?
