Tesla want to charge me $$$ to fix it as it's no longer under warranty. It's the same part (or software) failing in exactly the same manner - I'm not feeling like the charge is warranted.
Well, that's how warranties work.
If you don't pay for an extended warranty, then you should plan for some amount of issues in the future that will require you to pay to fix.

Every now and then you'll get lucky and the manufacturer (or dealer) will fix a problem without charging you, but you can't plan on that.
