Model 3 wipers operate all the time when in Auto. Also wipers start when selecting self drive. Service center (Richmond VA) says Auto mode is a beta. Anyone else have this problem?

It's a "Feature". Yes, FSD-Ăź-Ăź always turns the wiper setting to Auto mode. I've found it wants to wipe / clean the glass more when it's already clean such as first drive after washing it. It (FSD-Ăź-Ăź) doesn't seem to care after the glass is a bit more dirty.

No way for the user / operator / driver to change that [bad] behavior.

You cna choose any color as long as it's Auto.

I'd check to see if there is any cloudiness or obstruction in the forward window camera. AFAIK, that's how it decides when the window is dirty, it just looks out the camera.
Mine rarely come on. Actually a few weeks back when I engaged FSD, the wipers came on and it scared the crap out of me because they hadn't ever done it before.

I'd challenge the Service Center on auto being a BETA, AFAIK, they are behind a beta agreement.

Many complain about the auto wiper settings - either come on too much or not enough. My guess is that the service center tends to just tune out all wiper complaints because they are so frequent. If yours are wiping all the time, definitely push back because no, that’s not normal. I’m in the same situation as @Ed Woodrick, mine rarely come on… just when needed.

Hi all,

I came here to search on the same issue. I've read that cleaning the glass in front of the cameras from the inside might help. Mines a 2019 so it's possible there's a haze on the glass I guess.

Has anyone had any luck with curing this problem? It's such a headache because I can't use my autopilot without the wipers coming on when they aren't needed.

This is driving me mad as well, and a lot of other users in the nordic counties are complaining about the same. For me, it appears that the issues is primarily happening at night with street lights on the side of the roads.

absolutely my number one complaint about My 2022 Y, it’s either too much or too little. At the very least it should slow down while waiting at a red light,it’s silly sitting there and the wipers are full blast and it’s not even pouring. On the same ride home just this evening on the freeway changing lanes, now raining harder and w a car kicking up water in front of me (when I really need them to go fast) it was delayed. I couldn’t see much at all. Very concerning and can’t understand why something so simple hasn’t been updated w a fix.

It happened to me recently while driving in a parking lot. The wipers just started wiping real fast and it wasn't raining. I had to turn them off. The next day after I put then back on auto, they wiped once and stopped. Strange.

This is seriously driving me insane - especially when the wipers starts jumping due to dry windows. This happens 20 % of the time when driving at night, if you can endure it and don't turn off acc. The worst part is that the quick fix for Tesla is simple - just turn off the forced auto-wiper until the problem is permanently solved. Maybe Tesla can prioritize this after the next arcade game or rainbow road v2 is launched.

Tesla - can you hear me? TURN IT OFF!

the auto wipers on my MYP with the latest code has gotten much better
the latest code is a vast improvement, but at 99%ish effective, its the once in a while staying on when not needed, that can be a pain
think they almost have it 100%, we will find out with the next update

I have a 2020 Model 3 that had been suffering of the auto wipers on with no rain problem for a few months now (it wasn’t like that at the beginning). This was particularly bad at night when driving by some street lighting. I came to this forum and others trying to see how widespread this problem was and whether there was a fix. I was glad to se that it wasn’t just my problem, since others have experienced it too but yet it didn’t seem to be particularly widespread. I have a friend that bought his Model 3 a couple of months before I did and does not seem to have this problem. I filed a service ticket to have it looked at and to get an answer from Tesla. Mobile Service came to my house and without even looking at the car that , the technician told me that it was a problem that they were aware of that will eventually be solved with Tesla Vision. This still did not explain why some owners have this issue and others don’t. Unsatisfied, I kept trying to figure what the difference was. I looked carefully at the windshield cameras and did not see anything that would seem out of place. Then I took a picture of the camera area with my iPhone from the side using the flash to try to blow it up an see finer details. To my surprise the picture showed a lot of tiny white specs on the glass in front and inside of the camera well that I did not see when examining the same area with my bare eyes. I went back and checked the same area with a powerful LED lamp and now I could see the particles when shining the lamp in an angle. I disassembled the camera housing to gain access to the camera well and carefully dusted the glass before reassembling everything. It has been two weeks since I did this and so far I have not seen the problem happen again. Even when driving through places that would always trigger it.
