Charge port opening by itself!

Hi, I have just arrived home after a long trip and found that, although I didn’t want to charge the car yet, the charge port opened by itself. I closed it with the app, but it opened by itself again! This cycle repeated a few times until it finally decided to close itself. Any thoughts please?

Hi Jason, thanks for your help. I’m not entirely sure what to look for but here’s a photo! That all said, it appears to have been fine since that episode last night when I arrived home. Apart from being slightly jerky in its operation it appears to be responding normally as I would expect……

Do you or a neighbor have another Tesla nearby? I had this issue about a month ago—turns out both Teslas would open their charge ports when I pressed the button on the Wall Connector's charge cable. And the other Tesla was at the end of the driveway so it was a a surprising distance. It hasn't happened again after a firmware update.

Lock the vehicle and the charge port door won't open. :)

Is there a carving on the inside of the charge port door where there used to be a flat magnet, and now there is just some glue residue?

I believe Tesla removed the glued-on piece that the earlier Model 3s had on the charge port door many years ago. So OP's car won't have that. I'm not sure why the charge port would open by itself, but I would just ignore it. If you don't plug in anything after a minute the door will close by itself. I don't close the door ever after unplugging from my home charging or Supercharger, I let it close by itself after a minute or faster when I put my foot on the brake pedal to shift into drive.

Not sure about OP's case, but when I had this issue, the door didn't close on its own like it's supposed to. In fact, one time I was driving and noticed in the side mirror that the charge port door was still open (surely it should have closed when the car was in motion). No physical jams or error messages, either (and nothing in service mode).

I looked back at my notes and I had these charge port door problems on both my Teslas when 2025.20.6 was installed. One of the subsequent updates fixed it but there were so many in a short period of time that I don't know which one was the cure.
