Charge every week no problem today for some reason the car only charges to 99%. Checked the settings, it's set to 100%. Drove it around and everything runs ok.. charged again went to 99% then stopped?

OK I am not totally confused. I posted this message online last night and just left my car plugged in.
Was too lazy to unplug last night at about 9pm after it said it was done charging. My app read 99%.
It was no longer charging and the only option was to unlock charge port. I go out to my car this AM, I unplug the charger.
Go inside it reports 100%. ?!?! So confused. I changed nothing, because there was nothing to change. I check the app and yep its 100% too.
Was it balancing batteries all night long? Not sure what that was but its the first time hat happened.

The battery charge varies constantly because of the temperature. And even when the vehicle is asleep, it draws power.
And to top all that off, the BMS is balancing the batteries.

So, two things:
  • It varies based on time
  • 1%? That's being too detailed on something that isn't that detailed.

My Bolt was always 2% less than what I was expecting the SOC to be. The car was showing 80%, the app was showing 78%. I learnt then that the battery capacity isn't easy to determine and the BMS has an important role on this. And yes, during the night, there are a lot of things that happen and we aren't aware of. After almost 6 years of driving EVs and 10 years of driving PHEV and EV, I understand why no EV car maker will put a definitive number on the capacity of the battery. It is soo hard to get it right ! So those people talking about computing the battery degradation through Tesla service mode, better put their helmet on ...

I think I found my charging gremlin. Going to a super charger to see if I get a good charge speed. Here is something I never looked at and did yesterday. The Tesla plug. Hope its visible in the picture but the contacts are black.
I tried cleaning with a dry q tip and some rubbed off but not nearly enough. Suggestions?
Also so confused. This thing has worked nonstop without issue for well over year not all of a sudden its blackened or has
this been going on for a while and finally hit its peak. Last week it was working like a champ. Last night it barely charged.
Going to the super charger should let me know if my charge port has gone bad?

You should be able to use some rubbing alcohol are contact cleaner to help e little more. Carbon buildup is not a good sign.
You should also exam the car side, it probably has some as well.

The question becomes which side caused it. Yes, going to a destination, J-1772, or Supercharger should give you additional information.

What does the charge port look like?

Are you sure that's not just dirt? Usually with carbon tracking from arcing the plastic around it overheats and distorts a bit from the heat. It could just be the charge port is full of dirt.

Not sure what it is. Using the same Tesla mobile charger for over year. No problems. Now the car did not charge to 100% one day. After driving and plugging in again it did. After that, I use 120V 15Amp circuit, I have had the power go down to 6 Amps vs the 12 amps it always used. If I unplug the wand and plug it back in it goes back to 12A and stays that way for at least an hour. I check on it via the app. Last night it downgraded later in the night. Not sure what's going on yet. Just a pain.

OK I just finished a quick charge at a local Tesla charger. It did fantastic. Its a hot day so getting it to temp was no bid deal. I was at 50% and getting well over 100Kw to start before I left to grab a can of pop. Less than 20 minutes and I was at 87%. I unplugged and left. Now I need to clean my Tesla moblie charging wand.

FYI I Did a quick chat with Tesla support via a chat bot and they suggested q-tips and rubbing alcohol.
Going home tonight unplugging the charger and giving that a go. Maybe it just got dirty somehow. Hope that fixes it.
If not I will just have to buy another as I use it every single day. Can't wait until I get my garage cleaned out, call the electrician and get my 220 put in. Then I can charge to the same level every night and 100 on Sunday
