Wonder why you really don't see manual windows anymore? Electric ones are cheaper to implement.
At face value that is very hard to believe. The difference is a manual crank vs. electric motors, electric switches, necessary wiring harnesses, fusing, up/down limit sensors, blockage sensitivity, plus whatever software might be involved. Very hard to believe all that could be remotely less expensive than a set of hand cranks. I would posit a more compelling reason for the demise of manual windows is their undesirability today.

I am surprised Tesla hasn’t removed power windows to save all that complexity, or at the very least removed the control switches and made them fully automatic. Sorry, that was sarcastic. But the paragraph above isn’t…genuine question.

If you only build a car with hand cranks, then yes, it will be cheaper to manufacturer. But very few people will buy such a vehicle nowadays.

Offering electric windows as an option makes your manufacturing costs higher. Now you have to source multiple parts, stock multiple parts, and make those multiple parts available on the assembly line. Then you have to train people to know when to install that wiring harness and when not to. You have to add additional programming to the robots for the two different scenarios. You have to design the door structure to be able to mount either a hand crank or electric controls. And you'll also need different interior door panels (window switches vs hole for crank). So multiple parts to source, stock, and provide at assembly.

That's why it's cheaper to only offer electric windows.

Much like @FRC I got used to the off-center touch display on my 2018 Model 3 fairly quickly. Never really liked it though and still don’t. When we got our 2023 Ioniq5 with its driver binnacle I was and am very happy. And the heads-up display on the Hyundai is just icing on the cake.

The center display and HUD may not be considered mandatory, but they are very, very nice to have for my driving.
My brother purchased an Ioniq 5 in NY and I helped him on the drive home back to Florida. They almost bought a Tesla instead of the Ioniq because when his wife adjusted how she liked to sit while driving, the speed is blocked. They only went with it after they learned about the heads-up display. I had the same problem driving the Ioniq and my eyes and brain did not get along with the HUD. Apparently this is a known issue for some people. So I drove it without seeing the speed unless I leaned over to see it.

They really need to change the main as its current design wastes a lot of real estate for those 2 giant curves. At the time the route planner didn't really exist. But last month on their drive from Florida to British Columbia, they received the route planner upgrade and that made all the difference. That car is amazing from a build/hardware standpoint (loved the interior!!) and the software will improve over time. I am sure they will have to redesign that poorly laid out display.

I am sure you are really enjoying it.

The glass roof is actually less expensive.

A metal roof includes not just the top panel, but structural parts that keep it from bending when people push hard on the roof. And of course the metal doesn't look good on the inside, so you need to add a fabric layer there. And you need to glue that fabric to the roof. The biggest cost is for the people & machines required to put all of that together.

A glass roof can just be "plopped" on with adhesive. The single-piece of glass is strong enough to be its own structural element for the roof too.
I had to replace the glass over the front of my M3 after a rock chipped and cracked it while driving home after taking delivery of it 2 hours prior. $1,150.00 and not covered by insurance.

I'd take an insulated metal roof over the glass roof that radiates waves of heat into the interior making the a/c pretty much worthless. I will probably wrap the glass before moving back out west later this year where triple digit temps  combined with clear days happens 3/4 of the year.

Ok, so what good is a head's up display that you can only see when outside the car? Look closely at the picture.

Definitely looks like a mockup.
It may require you to refocus your eyes every time you glance at it. It gives some people headaches and some people get nauseous. So its not for everyone. I found it uncomfortable to use the one in the Ioniq 5, so I just put up with not being able to see the speed on the dashboard unless I tilted my head to see it.

Wow
Never knew this about HUD and nausea
It’s on my future T upgrades list of maybes
Wait and see

The HUDs that do it right, focus the information way out in front of you.

High quality HUDs reflect off the window, but they use optics technology to project well out in front of the car. You "see" it floating in the air, maybe 10 feet in front of you. This keeps you from having to change focus.
Presently we drive a 2021 Tesla 3 on a lease. Prior to the Tesla we drove two BMW 5 Series with HUD. The one thing my wife misses in the Tesla is the HUD. Also, this Tesla is so noisy on the highway, the radio is useless. Glad our lease will be over early next year. I will be looking for another EV but with more road noise isolation and better ride than the Tesla.

The new Tesla added double pain glass. Try a new model 3 or Y out, less noise and a softer suspension. Its suspension not up to a BMW 5 though.

My insurance covered the roof glass panel on my 3 that I replaced bc of a chip in the glass. Depends on the company I guess. We routinely have temps 95⁰F-100⁰ during summer (and late spring and fall!) and my car sits on the driveway and has for the 5+ years I've owned it (I have used a reflective sun visor on the windshield since the beginning). I don't find it any hotter in the interior than my husband's gas car. I love the glass roof on Tesla but to each his own her own.
