FSD: NSD or TOL?

I love my new (Aug 2023 build) Model S LR. Lots of improvements over my 2016 90D which I enjoyed over 7 years and 96,000 miles. With excitement and optimism I have been trying the latest version of FSD. What is the best description? Is FSD like a New Student Driver? Or more like a Timid Old Lady? 1) The following distance is absurdly long. This annoys drivers behind me. And invites others, one after another, to cut in front of me. This even after setting the option to most aggressive. 2) Lane changes, about half of them, are non-sensical. Either unhelpful or just plain wrong. 3) Intersections are a challenge. Hesitant and slow. And sometimes wrong. Yesterday it just froze up, half way through the intersection, unable to decide where to go. This leads to a question: When/where would FSD be better than just doing it myself? The answer is: 1) Interstate-type highways if not too much traffic. 2) Stop-and-go (or crawling) heavy traffic. In both of these cases, Basic Autopilot will do this perfectly. I am hopeful and optimistic that Tesla will eventually develop a useful FSD system. But it's not there yet.

It's like a friend of mine with MPD - it is NSD one moment and TOL another. :)

I subscribed to it for several months to gain first-hand experience and as a parlor trick to amaze friends, family, co-workers, and other drivers.

What I found is that, at least around rural and suburban northeast Texas, it worked nothing like I saw in influencers' YouTube videos.

It was fun to play with and did work impressively well at times, but when it can actually drive me to work and back without intervention or attention, I'll gladly dump the contents of my purse on Tesla's doorstep.

FSD works for me to work and back about 4 out of 5 times. It does amazing things with bicycles, properly getting by them, etc. But then it'll do something stupid out of the blue as well. Some updates seem better than others, I can't help but wonder if this latest update actually reverted back to an earlier version for some strange reason.

When will FSD be better than doing it yourself?
First, this isn't FSD, it's a beta.
Need a kid dropped off at an afternoon sport, FSD
Need to take a conference call while on the way to work? FSD

Even today, FSD takes a significant load off of driving. You don't have to use it for 100% of your trip, maybe 95% of it and it offloads a lot of effort.
It makes stop and go traffic just about a pleasure to be in.

Most of these things can be done with basic AP. No need to purchase FSD.

I am on a 4 lane road, .2 of a mile before a left turn, FSD Beta changes to the right hand lane and because of traffic goes straight through the intersection.
I have to make a u turn on a busy 4 Lane US highway, FSD Beta sits in the turn lane until traffic gets pretty clear, it twitches, jerks and finally blows off the u turn and makes a left turn so now I have to make a u turn on a side street.
I'm on another 4 lane road, where I'm going is on the left, once again the car changes to the right lane 2 blocks before my turn and no way can I make my left turn.
We need to be able to turn ALL LANE CHANGES OFF and manually change lanes if we want to.
There is no way I would pay $12,000 for this.
