Questions about the accuracy of the delivery estimates and on arrival checklist

Hi guys,

I'm sure there is a post somewhere regarding what to check on arrival, the common problems and issues, would appreciate a link to that post.

I opted for a maxed out Model X (minus the Yoke), I'm a bit concerned that on checkout (late October) the delivery range was November/December 2023, but as soon as I made the down payment my delivery date changed to January/March. Is this normal? I heard delivery dates can flip around?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, yes, this is quite normal. And with it changing to January/March, that doesn’t prevent it from suddenly flipping back early. Like, they might suddenly assign you a VIN tomorrow. It is one of the things that annoys me a lot about Tesla practices. While I understand that they have a dynamic situation, they expect utter flexibility from the customer to take delivery on short notice, or to suddenly be extended to a longer time.

The first estimated delivery you get (when you're basically anonymous to the ordering system) is "if we can find a match in inventory anywhere".

Second estimated delivery date is when the ordering system realizes where you are. That's 'if we can match inventory in your region".

Final estimate you get during ordering shows you an estimated time for one of the two above, or it switches to estimated delivery from factory production.

The reason why it says January/March for yours might be because the ordering system knows when the production run occurs but not what position yours will be in the production queue.
