Also, I just got some optimum hyper seal for my wife's car instead of putting a more permanent(expensive) ceramic coating on a used vehicle. My detailer said it doubles as a window cleaner/water repellant so I might try that instead of Rain-x since I already have both and I know how Rain-x works.

Please share with us. Where you can find it that cheap?
I'm seeing a number of foreign sellers offering it on ebay right now for under $2 shipped.
Rain-X lasts 3 months NOT 1 month.
Well... sort of.

It will continue to repel water to some degree for several months. It's still much better than a bare windshield after that amount of time. However, I find that the performance degrades a lot after a couple of rainy commutes.

I've been using Rain-X on my Leaf for a while now, so I'm kind of familiar with how it "wears". I had my wife's new Hyundai Tucson ceramic coated, including the windshield and all windows. It's 5 months later, and the windshield on her vehicle continues to bead up just as well as a fresh coat of Rain-X. So, I think I'm going to give Aquapel a shot for $2, just to see how it compares.

Good luck. Let us know how it works. For $2 shipped from overseas I'd expect it to be a counterfeit product. Especially considering Aquapel is a product of a PA company. However everything is made in China nowadays so who knows...

Yeah. I paid $0.99 shipped. We'll see.

So Rain-x and hyper seal both are not working well with auto wipers at city driving speeds. Haven't been on the highway in the rain yet.

Neither my wife's Mercedes nor the model 3 work well in auto wipers after application. Major chattering/hopping across the glass. I skipped the housings for sensors/cameras but it doesn't seem to matter. I think the reality is that the wipe frequency needs to be much slower with a hydrophobic coating and the auto wipers don't account for that.

Works fine if I hit it manually or set a speed that works. So I will probably try to hit it with windex and take off as much as I can. Works well for the roof and back glass though

No but the few minutes it takes to apply RainX while I am already spending time washing my car isn't a burden.

Please share with us. Where you can find it that cheap? I too am a fan of less work and would probably be willing to spend a little extra for something that lasts twice as long. The problem here is the fact that the fancy sauce costs almost an order of magnitude more. If you like it and it's worth it to you to pay that much more for it, then I am happy for you. However your posts seem like that of a salesman twisting facts to push a product. Either that or you are confused as to how long these products last. Allow me to help. Aquapel lasts 6 months NOT a year. Rain-X lasts 3 months NOT 1 month. Do you get a commission on, or have a vested interest in Aquapel? That would explain a lot.
:eyeroll: Are you a vested internet troll?

I suggested an alternative when folks here were discussing potential squeaking and skipping issues with Rain-X.

I used Rain-X for about ten years before discovering Aquapel, and Aquapel for 10+ years on three cars since. I personally tested both side by side along with an untreated section, over the course of 6-9 months. I posted the detailed results and posted video, all at personal time and expense. I simply offered those to read/watch if they felt like it. Clearly you haven't bothered...

Use Rain-X. The experience the first time you are in heavy rains after a fresh application is awesome. It's easy to find and cheap. But it quickly wears away. Its effectiveness is noticeably diminished after a few weeks. Of course this depends on weather and miles driven and windshield angle and probably temperature and if your car sits pampered in a garage. You can't explain it lasts for 3 months at 100% effectiveness for everyone just as much as I can't claim it wears away in a few weeks.

Again, I was just providing opinion and evidence of an alternative. A ten second search on eBay finds 6 for $22 or 2 for $5 as the top results. You're right. I was wrong about the $6 price. I should have said three fifty. And now I've wasted well more than that in effort arguing.

Jwardell sorry to jump on you but it sure seemed like you were pushing a wildly more expensive product with inaccurate info. One that basically does the same thing but lasts a little longer. Yep I also didn't look beyond a quick search on amazon.com for pricing. I found the same $0.99 source that garsh did. I'll give it a try and see how it works compared to rain-x on the TM3. The question now is do I leave the area in front of the cameras untreated or not? It would figure that I still have not driven in rain since I applied rainx almost two weeks ago.

Leaving the area in front of the cameras had no effect on helping auto wipers work better. So if you are going to do a coating, might as well do the whole area.

I'll be removing my hydrophobic coating from the windshield and just leave it on the other windows.

I tried RainX and had major chattering issues. I may get special wipers and try again at some point. I like how the rain beads off, but I can't stand the wiper clattering around noisily.

I also bought Aquapel from a cheap Amazon source, but I think it was too old or fake stuff, because ihe first capsule was completely dried out, and the next one was a gunky mess. My fault for worrying more about price than quality.

Seemed to me the water was beading up so aggressively that between the drops, the windshield was dry, thus the chatter.

The wipers really shouldn't chatter even on a dry windshield.

The sound of your wipers chattering away on your windshield isn't just grating, it also means the water isn't getting wiped away efficiently; you'll often see streak marks in the path of a chattering blade. There are a few possible causes of this problem. It's often the result of a buildup of wax, oil, or grease which prevents the blade from cleanly wiping the water away. Give your windshield a nice, thorough scrubbing. Give the blades a good cleaning too, for good measure.

If that doesn't fix the chattering, the problem may be a bent wiper arm. To make this diagnosis, bring the wiper up to mid-stroke on the windshield and examine the blade assembly. The blades should be making full contact on the windshield and the blade arms should be parallel to the glass. If the arm is bent, use some pliers to carefully twist it until it is parallel with the glass again.

I've used Rain-x on and off for about 30 years. I remember when it came out it seemed like a magical substance. No wipers needed. In that mode, it's great but I've certainly gotten the "chatter" that others have commented on due to either slightly weathered wiper blades or sometimes different blade materials and shapes. So, I'm not putting it on the Model 3 just yet (and we don't really get much Rain here anyway so it's not a priority).
At 150mph+ in a heavy rain shower, it's a god send though. ;-)
I DEFINTELY wouldn't try putting any acetone on the windscreen just to clean it off. The risk of the acetone making it's way to the edge or bottom of the screen and possibly damaging rubber sealing is too great.

I have my car in for service for a number of small issues and mentioned that the wipers chatter. Right away the service guys said were my wipers on Auto? They were and he said there's a patch coming to fix that issue, for now, he suggested putting it on manual. We'll see if that is really the case.
