Reset the computer or canceling alerts after repairs

I'm considering replacing the PTC Heater in our 2018 M3 AWD LR. The replacement process doesn't look too terrible, but near the end of the repair process the service instructions mention connecting Toolbox 3 to reset stuff. This seems like a potential problem, since I don't have Toolbox 3.

I've also read that Toolbox 3 is for M3s of 2019 vintage or newer. Don't know if that's actually true or not.

Does anyone know if you can reset stuff without this Toolbox, or whatever 2018 M3s need? Somewhere in the Service system? Can I reload software if I'm connected to WiFi parked in my garage? Do you need to reload anything if all you're replacing is the PTC Heater? The main HV line and the 12V battery will be disconnected, so is that what makes resetting stuff necessary?

You can reinstall software from Service Mode without using toolbox.

The other toolbox portion is to "reset compromised heating rods". I guess PTC heaters break down over time, and the heating system keeps track of how effective it still is. Probably won't keep it from running, but not resetting it might cause the MCU to complain that the PTC heater needs replacing when it actually doesn't.

It can't hurt to make a service request with Tesla, tell them you already replaced the PTC heater according to their service manual, and you need someone to do Compromised Rod Detection (the test ID according to the service manual is SELF_VCRIGHT_X_PTC-COMPROMISED-ROD-DETECTION). If they ask for more than $125, then you can rent Tesla Toolbox access for an hour and it would cost less.

Thanks. That reassures me. Getting to a Tesla Service location involves a 7 hour drive. Yeah, I live in the sticks, apparently. If I can fix this and only have to put up with the computer sending useless alerts, I can live with that.
