So what's YOUR point?
His point is simple : people should learn about their own car. I am flabbergasted about the lack of knowledge regarding their own car shown by the Tesla owners.

There is a setting in the Tesla that is called Lane Departure Avoidance. Based on its setup, you can very well experience what @Texarc mentioned.
  • Lane Departure Warning: This feature alerts you with a visual and/or audible warning if you begin to drift out of your lane without using your turn signal. It does not apply any steering input but simply notifies you that you’re drifting.
  • Lane Departure Avoidance (Assist): When enabled, this mode provides gentle steering input to nudge the car back toward the center of the lane if it detects that you’re drifting.
  • Emergency Lane Departure Avoidance: This is a more forceful intervention, which actively steers the car back into the lane if it detects a higher risk, like potentially drifting into another vehicle or off the road.
I have this setting on Lane Departure Warning and it is the best IMO. I feel the steering wheel vibrating under my hand and that's it. No, it's not a hand massage.

So what's YOUR point?

FSD MUST be better than humans or it'll never fly. What's the point of FSD if it still does all the bad and dumb things humans do?
FSD must be better than the worse human to possibly save a life. If it is safer than the average human, then it will save lives.

Now if you want it to be safer than the safest human, that's really easy. Take the motors off the car and never let it leave the garage. It's really hard to get in an accident that way.

My point being that you dinged FSD for going over the lines. What if your driver's license was suspended for a year for every set of lines that you've drifted over?
FSD will tend to become perfect under one situation, you remove the steering wheels from human hands.

Would you allow FSD to drive if it killed 20,000 people per year?
I would, because humans are killing 50,000 per year. Only 20,000 would be a dramatic improvement!!!!

Your expectation for FSD is rather low, don't 'cha think?

Wwho(m) is gonna pay for those 20K deaths??
Are you freaking kidding? Saving 30,000 lives a year a low expectation? NTSB definitely isn't going to agree with you.

You aren't going to get ANY product that solves all problems at once.

You're intentionally leaving out one VERY important thing:

How many people can one driver kill before it's a problem?

Once trump is "elected", Elmo will be appointed head of DOT, EPA, FAA, FMCSA, FMVSS, FTC, NASA, NHTSA, NTSB, ....(in alpha order) and any/all other government agencies that have any control over motor vehicles, including farm equipment, whatsoever and ALL vehicles operated in USA will be required to have Tesla's FSD.

Remember: You heard it here first!! Where we tell it like it is. And if it isn't, we tell it anyway.

Okay FSD 12.5.4.2 on HW3; I was running some errands today on a 4 lane divided Blvd, light traffic with a 45mph speed limit going 48. I was approaching a greenlight in center most lane with no one in front of me when the car braked hard, then again trying to make a full stop at a green light. I disengaged, took over and drove on. Luckily no one was close behind me or it could have been an accident. I'm really concerned about using FSD when it's decision making is so inexplicably dumb this far along in the process.

My wife has been interested in getting her electronic chauffer (FSD) on our 2024 Model 3 DM but I keep telling her it's not ready for prime time. She was in the car with me today and now I'm pretty sure it will be difficult to convince her this software is safe as I'm not sure myself. Really disappointing when the car makes stupid moves like this that are clearly not edge cases. Seriously, there should be an Operate at Your Own Peril screen disclaimer when activating FSD.

Any shade to momentarily obscure the cameras?
No, it was a sunny day, no tall buildings or trees creating shade on the road. There was literally nothing I could see that caused the car to hard brake for the green light. In hindsight, it seemed like FSD had a momentary lapse of consciousness. I'm usually ok with the minor issues around road construction work or reactions to reckless drivers but this one made me very concerned. Who's at fault if there's an accident when the car does something stupid like this. I'm guessing not Tesla.

You completely missed the point.
No, I didn't. What I just showed you is that Tesla Model Y (Safety Assist) can avoid accidents in 98% of the cases compared to the other cars. Now you do the math to get your answer.

If you look here, you'll see that Tesla is the only car that has the best score in safety compared to any other cars. I intentionally let the 2024 to 2022 years for comparison.
