I washed my e-tron and my wife’s Model 3 this morning and wanted to add a few additional impressions that you really only get looking this close at the car.
  1. The seals on the Audi are far superior. They feel sturdy and they are in the right places. This stops water and dirt from coming into the door jambs. Probably helps with noise to some extent. Though I remember buying those gimmick noise reduction kits for my Model 3 that did absolutely nothing.
  2. The paint on the Audi really is flawless. I think I already mentioned that, but getting up close and it’s literally perfect. Every door jamb, the inside of the trunk, literally everything. On my blue Tesla I really noticed where Tesla stopped spraying paint because it wouldn’t be seen from the outside.
  3. The build construction on the Audi is also far superior. Take a look at the trunk lid on your Tesla when it’s open and look near the lights. Below is a picture of my wife’s but I remember seeing similar on my previous cars

What does Tesla say about this? I'm thinking of going from Bolt EUV to MYLR for the charging network, but not if every Tesla falls apart. My best friend once owned a Porsche and the entire bottom fell off!

I have 3 Teslas in my garage and none of them are close to falling apart. Here is my attempt to match the same picture shown by the OP, also a white 2018 model 3. I am not a weld inspector, but this does not give me any structural concerns.

I would note a few things about pricing. When this thread was written a year and a half ago:
The e-tron was $77k, but gets the $7500 credit so it’s $69.5k and the Model Y is $68k. Price difference is negligible.
Now in early 2024, Audi e-tron currently starts at $75k with a model 3 long range, which was the main comparison basis, currently starting at $46k. Neither currently qualify for the federal tax credit. The model Y can be had for $42k or the model X for $73k after the tax credit. I think the comparison would feel pretty different if it was the e-tron vs the model X, both SUVs of similar net cost. In 2024.

Thanks! I know about the price...I look at it every day. After Texas returns from the Arctic Circle and the rain following it gets to Louisiana, I'm heading over to Tesla for my first hands-on. I've still got to get around the auction price I'll get on my EUV, but it's all relative, I suppose. If I don't get on the open road this summer (at age 70), the road may pass me by. I'm doing Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, either way, for my 50th anniversary of boot camp and I hope to be at Ft. Carson, Colorado in 2 years for my 50th of my separation from active duty. I'll tack-on Wisconsin (home) this year and a return to the Black Hills after Carson. But I'd surely ("and don't call me Shirley") like to be riding on the Supercharger Express.
