Today I was able to do the PWS with the instructions from this post. They are spot on. Now my issue will be getting the Tesla Service Department to activate my Boombox feature.
Quick update. I got my Boombox activated by the service department but they had come and do a Mobile service. No cost .

Awesome, how did it go?
No push back? Now that I got my PWS working
Next on my list is matrix headlights
Wonder how that will go trying to get the car reconfigured for that?
It is amazing! I did my matrix lights retrofit and it was amazing! However. Configuration needs to be set. Service centers won’t do it but I know a person if you want to start a conversation with me and I can add the person to assist it

Hello all, I have been reading most of this thread. I have a bit of block, I have a Model 3 SR+, it should have the PWS, but previous owner before me ripped the connector out from the External Speaker. Can anyone of you please help me find the part no or the harness that has the Male connector that goes into the External Speaker ? Thank you in advance.

What year is the vehicle? I believe Tesla did not start putting the actual wiring harness in until late 2021.. any generic speaker wire will do along with a specific GM harness plug.
Hi David, its a 2021 Model 3. I have the wiring , i have the speaker, but I cannot buy the connector from GM in UK. I was wondering what alternative plugs fit the speaker? What generic alternative I can purchase?
EV Breakers here in UK do not care about the wiring looms, and I cannot seem to find that small plug anywhere.
Thank you!

So, thank you for posting what you had on this… I’d only caution everyone else that the instructions lack a TON of steps that may get you in a lot of trouble if you’re not technically savvy. I was successful but boy did I have to fill in some gaps in the instructions. Also, my local tesla SC tried to tell me this wouldn’t work. Their remote config team was not at all surprised that I got this to work on my July 2019 M3 SR+. They did the remote config for me and I had to manually reboot the car for all the changes to take effect. Works just like my 2021 Model Y now.

Thanks for the thread! I installed pws on my 2018 model 3 and it works great, it’s just Tesla refuses to send the software to allow constant use and the addition of Boombox. The reverse and forward noises work after a soft reboot but that’s all.

Ok for anyone out there with a Pre-July 19' Model 3 that wants Boombox this is how I got mine installed and activated. I'm not responsible for damage you may cause installing this or Voided Warranty. Make sure your car is fully powered down before attempting this install (via 12v and high voltage disconnect) There are some things you need to look for on your car also such as if you have the wires under the dash to connect to and if your car has the speaker grille under the right front of the lower splash guard. If you have these 2 things then you need a Tesla service tech to toggle the configuration change I found mobile service tech. was happy to do this for me thankfully, however your results may vary. The parts needed to install this are: Tesla Pedestrian Warning Speaker : # 1299965-00-A (I paid $55.00 from Tesla) Screws to attach the Speaker : # 1128091-00-B (x3) Connector for Pedestrian Speaker : # PT3703 Pigtail (GM Part Number) Enough wire to run from RF Kick Panel to Front Bumper Area View attachment 41033 First you have to find the wires from the MCU that were supposed to power the speaker and easily located them under the passenger side kick panel in a twisted pair going to a connector higher up under the dash View attachment 41034 as you can see my harness was built February of 2019 putting it well below the cut off for native Boombox/speaker install per Tesla. View attachment 41030 I installed Taps to splice the wires needed you can use any method you would like just be sure they are insulted from each other and can't short View attachment 41031 The twisted gray and white wires are the wires for PWS my harness had these all the way up to a connector then stopped there. Note : the white wire is positive and gray is negative View attachment 41032 The black connector the wires stop at. View attachment 41038 View attachment 41039 View attachment 41037 Once I had tapped the wires I carefully ran them through the rubber grommet and inside a wire loom on the passenger side with the rest of the harness and just followed the harness along the body and dropped it down to its destination (PWS Speaker) View attachment 41036 Once you attach the connector the positive wire should be on the left of the connector with the label of the speaker facing up and looking at the back (wire side) of the connector with the clip facing up. At this point you still will not have a working speaker or Boombox But you can do a soft reboot (hold scroll wheels) and the speaker will function for forward and reverse noises after the car boots (this lets you know your install was successful) But the car will revert back to it not working after the car goes into a deep sleep. At this point you will need to get a service tech to make the change for you, I already had a mobile service appointment for other things so I just asked the tech when he came to enable it for me. After showing the service technician (he just looked at the speaker to verify it was there and plugged in) he changed my configuration to enable the speaker. View attachment 41035 aaaaand....... It works. Megaphone also works in the Tesla app. Just to note I was originally worried that it would revert back after a software update but I installed an update last week and it is still activated and has been working great.
Hey brother, thanks for this! I installed the speaker this way and sure enough the sounds work. But Tesla says they can't enable boombox. It's crazy, my build was literally one DAY after the harness upgrade. Sticker shows my build was done in 7/1/19 so I didn't have the harness but I did have the speaker cutout. I mean COME ON! IT'S JUST SOFTWARE!!

I also added this to my 2019 Fremont Build. I tested it on the 7th of september using build 2023.26.9 where after a soft reset it was functioning.
Today i installed it all and now it does not want to work anymore. Current build on mij car is 2023.32.4.

Does anybody else also has 2023.32.4 with a self installed PWS speaker without it being enabled by Tesla and it is still working?

I checked the speaker and the wiring and those are both perfectly fine.

If Tesla did not activate Boombox for you and you only tested the pedestrian warning sounds after a reboot, that does not mean that the PWS would stick or that you had access to Boombox. The test you did is good to make sure that you got the speaker and wiring installed right, but you still need Tesla to activate the Boombox feature in your car in order for it to actually be permanent.

Your car is old enough that PWS and Boombox were not standard features, so you need Tesla to add those.

I’m not expected it to stick, but i did the same steps as before where after a reboot it worked driving forward and backwards. But now with the latest software version installed it does not do anything anymore, so i was wondering if more people have this with 2023.32.

I have a July 19 build so the grille is there just not the harness. I bought the speaker & wired it up, works, and I'm on my third request to Tesla to activate it. I'm in Minnesota, anyone know of a cool tech that could just activate it on the side?! AHHHH this is frustrating.

I have a m3p 2020 for EU, the wiring was for pws but no speaker, after installing the speaker I had no sound when moving forward or backward. I found a specialist in a specialized chat and he remotely activated this function for me. Now I have the Boombox app and everything works fine in this app but there is one thing no sound when moving forward or backward! Software version 2023.44.30.5.1, Maybe Tesla has disabled this feature in the new software, does anyone have a working pws after updates?

Boombox and the PWS have remained for me (and I'm sure for everyone else) through software updates.

Honestly I would like for mine to function like yours, where the Boombox features work but the PWS doesn't while driving. But that is probably an outlier. Have you tried powering down the infotainment computer to see if it fixes that?

Can you maybe share some contact details because this sounds interesting!

Have you gotten someone to do the reconfig?
If not I have a contact that can do remotely
