I see a white/yellow and grey wire higher up in the dash. I tapped the ones lower that were white and grey. I wish I had a diagram for my vehicle.
You can get the wiring diagram from the service manual page, which is free. But that won't help you find the right wires because it's the same color on all the cars that would need to be tapped. It looks like you have the right ones in your picture. As mentioned, you will only hear the driving or backup sound effects after you reboot the computer using the two scroll wheels. Once the car goes to sleep you won't anymore. You will need Tesla or someone with toolbox access to enable the PWS and Boombox in order for it to be permanent and gain the Boombox functionality.

Has anyone in Northern VA done this retrofit? My Model 3 was built in December 2018 and has the speaker grille in the splash guard. I'd be willing to pay someone to help me do this.
Same here. I cannot get a sound. I tried the speaker in my buddies Tesla who has the PWS already and it worked so I know it’s not the speaker… I’m getting power reading from the wires too.. no idea..

I installed the speaker and did not get any audio when putting my car in drive or reverse. Is this due to not having the software pushed to the car?

I am attempting this on my July 2019 Model 3. It doesn't have the harness but it has the speaker grate. What gauge/type of wiring did you all use? Also, can you tell me if I tapped the correct wires? I really want the boom box for the awesome lock sounds. I know my M3 has the capabilities. It just missed the cut off date. I just want to make sure I do it right. Thanks in advance!
Well. After mobile tech showed up. He didn't want to be bribed (because the 10000 layoffs) musk did. Per the birthday of car I am only 14 days away from the cut off date stated be Tesla. The repair guy said I could get the retro fit from Tesla for $400 an be installed an fitted to my car under Tesla. What he obviously didn't know was of you don't meet the cut off they won't even sell you the kit.

So back to square one. I'm not sure if the wiring in did works due to the diagram.

So does anyone know how to get the right person to turn it on and upload the firmware.

anyone?

Just an update. I was able to get my PWS and boombox software installed and working. I am so happy to have come across this thread, thanks to the original owner of this post for this helpful guide.

At first, Tesla was saying my 2019 model 3 is not capable of having the system since it is a Feb 2019 built. But the key is to ask polite and be patient with them. I got the appt the following week and only took the technician 5 mins to push the software. He confirmed that the boombox will stay even after updates.

Pics below for proof and reference. Tesla charged me $40 for the configuration.

Location: Vancouver, Canada

Hey I’m in the same boat as you were and cannot get the sound to work. Did it only work once you got the software? Please help me! :) I have a 2019 as well. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,
I attempted to do the same in a car built on the 29th of May (speaker holes present, but harness is not), but I'm getting an error when trying to test the connection.

So I did a soft reboot (by pressing the two steering wheel buttons) with the factory Tesla speaker connected (I tested it by hooking it up to my macbook, it works well) and this is the alert the car throws instantly after putting it in drive and as you can see the eCall icon on the top transitioned from white to orange. The obvious reason would be that I put the taps on the wrong wires, but I'm not sure about that.

I put the taps on these two wires:

The thing I noticed it that other people's white wire seems to be a little yellowish, I'm not sure.
Can you please tell me if I'm tapping on the right wires and if not where can I find the right ones?

Thank you very much.

I have not tried this mod myself, but from your photos it looks very much like you cut into the wrong wiring harness. According to earlier photos here, the one you're looking for goes up the side kick panel beside the door, and ends at a connector just above there. It's also, according to the instructions, a "twisted pair", so it would be a grey with a whitish-yellow braided around it.

Do you think this is the correct one then? I couldn’t find any others that are twisted and similar to the description above.
The location is around the right place, and they're the right color, but it's too difficult to see from what's around them. If you don't have any CAN errors you probably have the right ones.

Hello, I just bought a second-hand Tesla M3 SR, and I already found the wiring, I put another 4ohm speaker but it doesn't make any noise even after restarting, but from what I've read it's due to software, I have already ordered the PWS horn and the electrical connector, when it arrives I will do the installation and seek help from Tesla

I just complete this myself. Once connecting everything I wasn’t getting any sound from the speaker. I did read where some weren’t getting any sound until they had the software update so I contacted Tesla and had a tech come out for the update. Once he was done, I still had no sound from the speaker. Finally figured out the taps I was using wasn’t cutting through the insulation on the wire. I had to strip back some of the wire with a razor knife and finally got signal.
