Hi,
My voice activation button does not work. It is fictional because I car rest by pushing both buttons.
When I push the horn, the voice activation starts . any idea what the issue would be?

I tried to open a ticket. they want me to schedule a time.
Yes they want you to schedule a service appointment. Sometimes they can diagnose remotely, sometimes a ranger can conveniently come to you, or sometimes you need to take the car to them. But it all starts with making an appointment.

Bought my X in 2018, in 2019 all of the sudden my voice command stopped working when I pushed the button, but when I pushed the horn, it came on. Under warranty, Tesla tech came out and replaced the steering control switch harness. Now, all of the sudden, it's doing the exact same thing and Tesla want to charge me $$$ to fix it as it's no longer under warranty. It's the same part (or software) failing in exactly the same manner - I'm not feeling like the charge is warranted. Can anyone here tell me how they got this resolved? Or at least any advice on getting Tesla to fix a recurring problem even if it's no longer under warranty?

Well, that's how warranties work.
If you don't pay for an extended warranty, then you should plan for some amount of issues in the future that will require you to pay to fix.

Every now and then you'll get lucky and the manufacturer (or dealer) will fix a problem without charging you, but you can't plan on that.

Ok that’s not too bad at all. The switches are like $100 used on eBay, and it seems like an easy replacment I could do, but no telling if the used switches would have the same problem. I’ll just let Tesla do it. Theres also a wiring harness that’s $100 used on eBay that connects all the switches to the horn, which seems like another potential point of fault

I had the same thing happen. I got a 2020 Tesla Model S in October 2024, and the voice button worked fine. Soon thereafter (after a software update), the voice button stopped activating voice control. The physical button apparently still works, because I can use it (along with the other button on the left) to reset the infotainment system. But pushing it alone does nothing. And honking the horn activates voice commands.

I don't understand how replacing the wiring harness would fix it. Maybe there's a different wiring harness that works around the bug? It sure seems like the bug should get fixed. I have submitted a bug report. I'll let you know if anything comes of it.
